The visit to the old cathedral was a highlight, and we had plenty of free time to explore on our own. The transport was comfortable, and everything was well-organized. This tour struck a great balance between guided insight and independent discovery. I especially loved sampling local pastries at a riverside café. Sanna is an actual teacher when she is not serving as a tour guide. Her strong education skills were evident! She kept the group together and engaged in learning. Sanna made sure to give us clear instructions and time frames, and I observed her conducting a headcount on several occasions to make sure that none of us were accidentally lost. Her walking pace was perfect for all ages and abilities.

The tour started on a small bus, which was clean, modern, and, most importantly, had a very safe driver. The bus tour portion consisted of driving around Helsinki and looking at and visiting key sites. We had the opportunity to get off the bus and explore some sites for brief but appropriate amounts of time. While riding between each site, Sanna told us about the significance of buildings and neighborhoods.

On our tour day, we stopped at the Olympic Stadium, the Sibelius Monument, and the Temppeliaukia Church, which is a beautiful and peaceful church built directly into solid rock. The admission fee for the church was included in the tour ticket.

The bus portion of the tour ended at Kauppatori, a harborside open air market with lots of street food options and local crafts. We had 30 minutes to get lunch before our ferry ride to Suomenlinna, which again felt like an appropriate amount of time. If you are concerned that you might not get enough time to eat AND shop, do not worry. The tour also ends in Kauppatori, where you can take as much time to shop as you’d like.

The ferry ticket was also included in the price of the tour. The ferry ride was short and smooth. You can sit indoors on the bottom floor or outside on the top floor.

Once on the island, a purely walking tour of the fort commenced, with Sanna again providing us with a comprehensive history of the buildings and the Finnish, Swedish, and Russian contributions to the fort.

I was able to take many beautiful pictures and learned a lot about the rich history of Helsinki and Finland. I highly recommend this tour!

  We are in Helsinki for an international conference and we want to maximize our sightseeing. We chose this tour for our first day so we could have an overview of... read more our host city. We were a small group, of just 8 strangers. We started in a van and visited several sites in the city, such as the Olympic stadium, the Sibelius monument and the “Heavy Metal Church”(there is such a thing!). We left the van at Senate Square and eventually walked down to the harbor. After lunch in the marketplace(on our own), we then boarded the ferry to Summalinna (may not be spelling this right). It was a fortress at one time, and filled with history. It is now home to little shops, private homes, a church (we saw two weddings while on the island) a museum, and beautiful views. All in all it was a great tour, and our guide, Sanna, was informative. She let us ask questions and visit the sights without feeling rushed around.

Right from the meet and greet pick-up, at Helsinki airport upon our arrival, till dropping us back at the airport on our return home, everything was perfect and went absolutely on schedule. We did the Helsinki City Tour, Porvoo Tour and the tour to Tallin. Each of these tours were very enjoyable and what I found remarkable, was the extra care and attention shown to accommodate my wife's walking issues as a result of which, at times we were falling behind.
